There is always a question asked by someone when we first met after we learn their name is “where is home for you?”
My home is a shrine for me, it is in Jakarta. There is a quadriptych of balinese dancers above my bed made by an artist from the island of gods, Bali; where millions of tourist flock to relax and be with the sun and sand. And that is the beginning. A ceramic owl done by an artisans in Java resting on twigs sits on my kitchen counter, staring at me as I brew my morning coffee and a weaved textile from Sumba decorates my buffet in the hallway.
I considered each of these things I acquire to be things that turns my house into a home. When laid out all together, the theme of my decor becomes painfully obvious, but its was more important to me to display these treasure that I’ve collected because they all have a meaningful stories behind them. Home for me is made of experiences—moments of my life that helped to change me and to teach me.
As we welcome you to our 4th edition of The Local Market at La Maison this Spring, we celebrate your home, a new season, finding new treasures and especially you. You who loves stories behind the things you collected.
And home is where the heart is, then by its most literal definition, my home is wherever I am with things that means so much to me. So I am inviting you to our Spring home edition where home is the based where everything begins and there is no place on earth that I rather be.
